My Holiday Baking List

My holiday baking list of all the things I can’t wait to bake this season!

There is just something magical about baking at Christmas time. I love the tradition of it…the nostalgia, the familiarity, the comfort (I’m an Enneagram 9). It brings me joy to create in the kitchen and share it with friends and family. The truth is, I don’t even eat most of what I bake but I love doing it anyway because it’s my creative outlet. My way to spread joy throughout the season.

Since being diagnosed with celiac disease, this season looks a little different in my baking and I see this year as an experiment; testing out old favorites with a gluten free spin while mixing in some new, naturally gluten free dishes.

My Holiday Baking List

Soft ginger cookies - adapted from Better Homes & Gardens Giant Ginger Cookies, these are the cookies that made me realize I love gingerbread.

Sugar cookie cutouts - a favorite in my family for decades. I’ve started using this recipe for foolproof cutouts, every single time. This year I’m testing out a gluten free version and will report back!

Raspberry white chocolate cookies - these gluten free bites of heaven are my latest creation and I love them!

Cherry kisses - my sister Kim made a triple batch of these last weekend…our secret weapon? A cherry cordial kiss on top.

Key lime crinkles - I found these in an old Food Network magazine and they are SO good and SO pretty on a cookie plate

Peanut butter & jelly thumbprints - I’m still working on this recipe, but I’m determined to add this to my repetoire.

Oreo truffles - an oldie but goodie and I plan to make them with gluten free Oreos! I just saw Mondelez announced that they will be coming out with gluten free Golden Oreos, which I think could make for a very fun sugar cookie truffle with red & green sprinkles!

Brown Butter Frosted Cranberry Cookies - just a simple drop cookie topped with a brown butter glaze, these are the unsung hero of the cookie plate.

Christmas Chocolate Crinkle Cookies - I love a sprinkle-covered chocolate cookie! I’ve yet to try this as a gluten free version, but plan to experiment soon.

Homemade marshmallows / peppermint marshmallows - I made one batch and put crushed candy canes on half of them…outstanding!

Peppermint bark cheesecake - I have no idea if I’ll get to this, but I’m dreaming up an Oreo-crusted cheesecake with white chocolate and candy cane ripples throughout.

Gingerbread cake with cream cheese frosting - another annual favorite! I am going to try a gluten free spin this year

Brown sugar cake with cranberry frosting - my Christmas Eve staple from the NY Times. I know I will never achieve the same light brown sugar cake, however, the cranberry frosting and sugared cranberries are inspiring me to try my own spin.

And lastly, for Christmas morning breakfast, I love to make this tater tot casserole! It’s naturally gluten free and I’ve never appreciated that until this year :) Though to be honest, I end up eating Christmas cookies while opening presents and watching A Christmas Story marathon on TBS anyway.

We’re 11 days out from Christmas, and I’ve got a LOT of baking to do!

Now tell me, what’s on your list?
