Nutella Rice Krispies Treats Recipe
This Nutella Rice Krispies Treats Recipe is one you’re going to want to save and use again and again! These Nutella Treats are an absolutely delicious party dessert and so fun for all ages!
We’re into the full swing of summer barbecues and gatherings. In fact, we’re midway through the summer - eek! - but I will not acknowledge that. Not for one moment. Get out of here with your school supplies and pumpkin spice and Halloween things. We will have time for that. Plenty of time for that. But you know what we don’t have plenty of time for in August? Summer.
Somehow, summer feels like it’s almost over and yet in New Jersey, we’re only halfway through! We start school in September here, so we’ve got a lot of summer desserts still to be had. And I’ve got a list about a mile long of all the things I want to make.
Speaking of summer desserts, you simply HAVE to make these Nutella Rice Krispies Treats…like today. They are easy enough to make for a last minute gathering but impressive enough to get people asking about them.
What are those?
What’s in them?
Followed by the inevitable OMG these are amazing!
These are, in my humble opinion, the perfect take-and-go summer dessert. They travel like a dream. They stand up to the heat (no melting!). They stay fresh for days when properly wrapped. And they’re beloved by children and adults of all ages.
There are a few reasons why this Nutella Rice Krispies Treats recipe is so amazing. First, the whole thing starts with browned butter and salt. Hello Gorgeous!
Then, a large helping of Nutella is swirled into melted marshmallows.
And finally, the whole thing is sprinkled with flaky sea salt for an inspired move that puts the whole thing way over the top and into my list of all-time favorite desserts.
So, what are you waiting for? These Nutella Rice Krispies Treats aren’t going to make themselves.
Nutella Rice Krispies Treats
Ingredients
- 6 C Rice Krispies
- 8 Tbsp butter
- 15 oz. mini marshmallows, divided (about 1 1/2 bags)
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 3/4 C Nutella or hazelnut spread
- 1/2 tsp flaky salt, such as Maldon (you may use kosher salt in place of Maldon if necessary)
Instructions
- Prepare a 13x9" baking dish; line with parchment paper (with some overhang)
- Pour Rice Krispies into a large bowl and set aside.
- In a large sauce pan over medium-low heat, melt the butter and salt together.
- Once melted, swirl the pan consistently over the heat until it turns golden brown and smells nutty and delicious, about 3-5 minutes. Do not walk away from the pan at all during this process, as the butter can go from brown to burnt in a matter of moments.
- Once the butter is browned, turn down the heat and stir in the marshmallows, reserving about 1/2 cup of marshmallows on the side for later. Mix until the marshmallows are just about melted.
- Stir in the Nutella until just combined.
- Quickly stir the marshmallow-Nutella mixture into the cereal until just combined. You will want to work quickly before the mixture hardens.
- Add the remaining marshmallows. Gently fold together until incorporated.
- Press into prepared pan.
- Pour the Maldon salt (or remaining kosher salt) evenly over the top of the treats. Using the bottom of a flat cup, gently press the salt into the treats so that it sticks.
- Let the treats sit at room temp until set, about 1 hour.
- Cut into squares and enjoy!
