Easy Greek Layer Dip
This easy Greek layer dip is the perfect party food for everyone! Fresh and light enough for any occasion, this dip is super fast and simple to put together.
You might notice that this is the second Greek layer dip recipe here on the blog. We just love a good Mediterranean flavor profile. It feels light enough for healthy snacking, but indulgent enough to be a fun party food for a weekend celebration or, my favorite, a football Sunday. The best part of this Greek layer dip is that it can be made quickly with no baking and hardly any prep work. With some premade ingredients and a few fresh veggies tossed on top, this dip couldn’t be easier. It’s really more of a dip assembly than a dip making. And, as Ina would say, store bought is fine.
It all starts with a secret ingredient that just takes the whole dip up a notch. Then, it’s layered with creamy hummus, sharp feta and briny kalamata olives. It’s also balanced with a burst of freshness from the cherry tomatoes and diced cucumbers. Yummm. I made this when I hosted Mom’s night out and it was a great, easy party food served with some chilled rose. I hope you give it a try!
Easy Greek Layer Dip Ingredients:
Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese. This is the secret ingredient of my easy Greek layer dip. It adds a creaminess and a sturdy base to the dip. I highly recommend it! If you are going dairy-free, you may omit. If you cannot find garlic and herb cream cheese, you may make your own by mixing an 8 oz block of cream cheese with some oregano, lemon, garlic, salt and pepper.
Creamy Hummus. My favorite hummus is esti classic hummus. It’s the perfect creamy dip for just about everything. The flavor is elevated and makes a perfect layer in this dip. You could also change things up and use another hummus flavor like kalamata hummus, roasted red pepper hummus or lemon hummus!
Crumbled Feta Cheese. I highly recommend getting a block of feta and crumbling it up yourself. I know, it’s annoying to do this, but it just tastes better and fresher than buying it crumbled. If you’re in a pinch for time, by all means, use the pre-crumbled feta though.
Pitted and Diced Kalamata Olives. I buy a jar of pre-chopped and pitted kalamata olives. I drain slightly and just spoon over top. Olives add the most perfect brinyness to the Greek layer dip.
Sliced Cherry Tomatoes. Now we need some freshness. Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and layer evenly on top. It’s simple, fresh and bright.
Diced Cucumbers. I like to use the tiny Persian cucumbers. They have smaller seeds and are easier to dice up. Slice and dice into small pieces and layer it up.
Basil or Mint. This is a garnish for the dip. I had basil on hand, so I did a quick chiffonade and sprinkled it on top.
How to Make Easy Greek Layer Dip:
You’re going to need a pie plate or a rectangular plate, like what I used. I like being able to see all of the layers and colors. Any dish of your choice will work!
Spread the garlic and herb cream cheese over the bottom of the dish.
Next, spread the hummus on top of the garlic and herb cream cheese. You may leave a small border of cream cheese so that guests can see there’s cream cheese there.
Sprinkle the feta evenly on top of the hummus. You may set some more aside to sprinkle on top once finished.
Gently lay the tomatoes and cucumber on top of the feta. So pretty, right?
Add the kalamata olives all over the top of the dip.
Sprinkle the mint or basil on top of the dip for some added color and texture.
Serve with pita chips or crackers! I served the Greek layer dip with Trader Joe’s Garlic Naan Crackers. So so good.
You may make this ahead, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving.
