Hunter Green Master Bedroom
A peek inside our master bedroom renovation, including our dramatic hunter green accent wall, airy bedding and all the stuff we still haven't gotten to yet!
When we bought our house a little over a year ago, we knew we'd have to renovate just about all of it. We didn't mind. We knew the bones and layout were here. It's a 1960s split level, with an open floor plan and an addition, but, it needed some major TLC in the form of a complete renovation. Our master bedroom was high on the list of Dire Makeover Needed.
And here's what it used to look like when we moved in:
Yowza, amiright? I almost can't look directly at this picture because it's so insane. Sometimes when I look back at the before photos of our house, I can't help but think: what were we thinking?!
Within a month after we moved in, we renovated (almost) the entire top floor of our house, which includes 3 bedrooms and a master bath. We haven't yet renovated the other full bathroom up there, which the kids share. We had the floors refinished and had all of the bedrooms and closets painted. What a before and after, right?
I absolutely love how this room has turned out thus far. It's just spacious enough, it has 3 windows that provide lots of light and has a large enough closet and a small master bedroom. Not too shabby for an older house in a charming little town.
This is the inspo pic that I used as the basis for this room. You can read the full overview here.
I wanted something that felt dramatic and grown up, but also light and airy. We went with Benjamin Moore's Goodwin Green for the accent wall, while the other walls are Shoreline, also from Benjamin Moore. I love both of these colors so much!
Our rug came with us from our Jersey City apartment and I still love it in this space. It's the perfect shaggy gray.
Bedding is Hearth & Hand from Target, and I love that it looks sort of rustic and cozy, but also put together.
The long pillow was a housewarming gift from a friend, and I absolutely love it in this room because it sort of helps bridge the gap between the dark green wall and the light, airiness of the rest of the room.
Our dressers are from Macy's. Finally, after 10+ years of marriage, we splurged on decent bedroom furniture for ourselves after so many years of half-falling apart Ikea dressers.
Our curtains are nothing fancy. I got the rods and curtains on Amazon (the rods are no longer available, but I also think these are pretty). I wanted to keep with the light and airy feel, so I opted for white curtains and to contrast all the gray, I added gold curtain rods for a little brassy feel. This also played off of the inspo pic, and the gorgeous gold sconces above the bed.
As you can see, the room isn't quite done yet, as evidenced by our lack of bed and nightstands, as well as our TV resting on a hand towel, instead of mounted to the wall.
Here's what's left to do:
A bed. As you may notice, there's no headboard or bed to speak of. We literally just have our mattress, box spring and frame on wheels. My indecisiveness is creeping up here because I can't seem to find one that I'm ready to pull the trigger on. I want something tufted and soft to offset the 3 wooden dressers.
Nightstands. I can't even tell you how annoying it's been to not have a nightstand where I can have a little bedside lamp and to plug in my phone. Maybe even a book or some flowers? Who knows? I don't want anything too matchy with the dressers, and trying to choose a bed before we decide on nightstands.
Windows. We recently got a quote to replace all of the bedroom windows. I'm not sure why we have these odd frosted/stained glass looking windows in here, but I'm ready to say sayonara to them in the near future.
A shelf. I love the idea of a decorative shelf over the bed with some oversized art.
Mount the TV. A simple but necessary task that we really need to tackle.
Lastly, I'd love to change out the light fixture someday. I like the idea of having a fan, though I'm not sure it's necessary. It's fine for now, but could use an update.
What do you think? Would you ever do a dark accent wall?
