Last Minute 4th of July Dessert
This last minute 4th of July dessert is a simple, fast, easy treat for any party or picnic!
How did July arrive so fast? I swear it was just Memorial Day Weekend and here we are, on the precipice of the 4th of July holiday. I love a good picnic and party on a summer weekend…is there anything better than charred hot dogs, juicy cheeseburgers, sweet fruit salad and of course, all the desserts.
One of my go-to desserts are Rice Krispies treats. But not just any Rice Krispies treats. My recipe is packed with extra marshmallows and extra butter that is melted until browned and topped off with a hit of flaky salt. It takes the treats up a major notch and transforms them from a kid food to a downright indulgent dessert for every age.
I turned these into a 4th of July dessert by adding some red, white and blue! Sprinkles make everything special and festive. And these are covered in sprinkles, inside and out. Sprinkles are folded into the mix and then fully coating the top of the treats for extra fun. This is such a great last minute 4th of July dessert because it can be made an hour before you walk out the door, placed on a pretty plate and easily secured with plastic wrap for travel. These treats are gooey and soft and yet virtually indestructible during transport.
4th of July Rice Krispies Treats
Ingredients
- 6 C Rice Krispies
- 8 Tbsp butter
- 15 oz. mini marshmallows, divided (about 1 1/2 bags)
- 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt, divided
- 1 C red, white and blue sprinkles, divided
Instructions
- Prepare a 13x9" baking dish; line with parchment paper (with some overhang)
- Pour Rice Krispies into a large bowl and set aside.
- In a large sauce pan over medium-low heat, melt the butter and salt together.
- Once melted, swirl the pan consistently over the heat until it turns golden brown and smells nutty and delicious, about 3-5 minutes. Do not walk away from the pan at all during this process, as the butter can go from brown to burnt in a matter of moments.
- Once the butter is browned, turn down the heat and stir in the marshmallows, reserving about 1/2 cup of marshmallows on the side for later. Mix until the marshmallows are just about melted.
- Quickly stir the marshmallow mixture into the cereal until just combined.
- Add the remaining marshmallows and 1/2 C sprinkles. Gently fold together until incorporated.
- Press into prepared pan.
- Pour the remaining sprinkles evenly over the top of the treats. Using the bottom of a flat cup, gently press the sprinkles into the treats so that they stick.
- Let the treats sit at room temp until set, about 1 hour.
- Cut into squares and enjoy!

This is the best gluten-free pumpkin pie recipe with graham cracker crust I’ve ever made. It’s full of pumpkin flavor with a hint of spice in a luscious filling. The graham cracker crust is buttery and caramelized. This recipe is so good, no one will guess it’s gluten-free! Perfect for your Thanksgiving dessert table, this pie is both easy to make and absolutely delicious.
